Class of 1959 - Our 55th Reunion Update

Save the

1959 Classmates – It was wonderful seeing so many of our classmates at our 55th REUNION!

The Molly Pitcher Inn did an extraordinary job of hosting our reunion, with a fantastic view, delicious food, and a cozy room so that we could share thoughts and conversation.  Our guests, the Superintendent of Schools for Irvington and the High School Principal, were welcomed and invited all of us to come see the new additions to our school. We honored our high school English teacher, Bob Andreach, with a plaque even though he could not be at our event.

Vic served as our master of ceremonies and welcomed everyone to the event.  He read some of the letters and good wishes sent by classmates who couldn’t attend but were with us in spirit. Vic also gave us an update on our participation in the scholarship program and the legacy which we are giving to deserving senior Irvington High School students.  The new scholarship information will be sent to everyone in about two weeks. You are ALL invited to come to Awards Day at our high school in June and share with us the pride we have in our school and for our outstanding students. It is the first Friday in June and you can contact any one of your reunion committee or the school for information.

Some of the photos from our get together can be downloaded from this site and we all hope you enjoy them.  There was much laughter, a little more gray hair, but good humor everywhere.

Your committee worked hard to try to contact everyone and to plan for a successful event.  Maybe a 60th?  We’ll see. Keep in touch and if you move, please send Gloria your new address.  Take care and may you be healthy, happy, and achieve all that you wish.   From your committee: Gloria, Julie, Jeff, Steve, Lorraine, Jim, Rosie, Bruce, Segundo, Tony, Vic, Ilene.

Thank You!

The Scholarship Fund

On behalf of the recipients for the scholarships, a big THANK YOU is extended.  So many of our classsmates participated in the scholarship fund drive that we not only achieved our goal of $2,000, but exceeded it to reach an unbelievable $3,032.  The class of 1959 is truly TERRIFIC.  All of the scholarship recipients have achieved grade point averages over 3.0 and are making a difference in their college careers.  Please check out the web site for the scholarship program at www.ihsasmf.com. You are all cordially invited to come to the awards ceremony next year and be part of this marvelous program. Let Vic, Clara, or Ilene know and we'll keep you posted on the date.

Just as a side note, the committee members are now mentoring the scholarship winners, keeping in touch with them during the academic year and offering friendly advice when asked.

Don’t forget to save the date for our 55th reunion. For more information, email Gloria at gloriaguidera@comcast.net or Ilene at ibskolnik@ihs1959reunion.com.

Check out the scholarship photos (there are members of our class in the photos) and the videos.

And on a special note, we want you to know that each year when we send out our scholarship fund raising letters and receive donations, we also receive several wonderful gifts as anonymous contributions in the names of members of our class who have passed on. This has hapened each year and is very, very special.  While these members are no longer with us, their memory continues. As information, 100% of all monies donated (be it $10 or any other amout) go toward the scholarships and a letter confirming this is sent to you from the treasurer of the fund.

Dear members of the Class of 1959,

- a message from Vic Petriella

For the last 3 years I have represented our class on the IHS Alumni Scholarship Committee. As such I have attended Class Day at Irvington High School, usually the first Friday in June, for the presentation of two $ 1,000 scholarships to two deserving seniors as they embark on a college career.
